The cost of data is a massive barrier to communication for the marginalised majority in South Africa. The Yetu Infotech Collective is committed to enable internet access by challenging the profiteering telecoms corporation that are holding communities hostage.
We are exploring a number of possibilities including working with social movements, NGOs, unions & community organisations to develop & maintain their own telecommunication infrastructure, as well as to leverage economies of scale to buy bulk data at affordable rates.
On average the corporations charge R18.93 per GB on a month-to-month contract, R28.00 for a GB that expires in a day and R83.50 for a GB that lasts a month.
Our contacts can be terminated with one month notice.
